Blue Lizard Farm is a small family farm in Lincoln Co. NV. They are 150 miles north of Las Vegas and 2500 feet higher in elevation, so it’s a little cooler in the summer and a lot colder in the winter. Lincoln County, NV probably couldn’t be any more different than Vegas. It’s almost the same size as Vermont, but with only 5500 people spread over six towns. There isn’t a single traffic light in the whole county. It’s the kind of place where, for good or bad, everyone knows everyone. If you’re ever not sure what you’re doing, just ask your neighbor, because they know. Kids run around being kids, and people chat in the grocery stores and post offices. There are parades down main streets, volunteer firemen’s fundraiser barbecues, and Little League games in the parks. It’s a pretty amazing place. This is Meadow Valley, which lies between the towns of Caliente and Panaca. Blue Lizard Farm is up against the hills on the east side of the valley.
Rodney Mehring has a unique Story, and it would be to long of a story to tell in one post. In the next series of Posts, we are going to chronicle Rodney’s journey, how we met him and how he led us to Floating Boats.
We started 4farm2mrkt.com because we wanted to support Farmers Markets and the farms that supported farmers Markets. We wanted fresh produce in Las Vegas. This was our way of supporting the Community. We met Rodney and Christine with Blue Lizard Farm a couple of years ago at the downtown 3rd farmers Market. We continued to get to know them and when Rodney spoke to us about how he was trying to get Lincoln County to create more micro farms to use the water that was available, we thought we could help them with a video to help sell the idea.
After lobbying Lincoln County to grant the water rights, he did succeed in getting them to pave the way for adding more Farms in Lincoln County.
In the next segment, We talk about the Indiegogo Campaign to help Blue Lizard Farms add more Hoop Houses to increase Production.
