Justice Democrats was formed in January of 2017.
Why “Democrats”?
Why not just start a new party?
They acknowledge that a two party system is the way our system works. Third party candidates have never broken through the system, even Bernie failed to break through even though he tried as a democrat. They want our democracy to work for Americans again as soon as possible. They believe the best way to do this is by working to change the Democratic Party from the inside out. If they succeed, they hope to implement electoral reform like ranked choice voting so third parties can have more power in our democracy. All candidates are required to pledge not to take any corporate PAC or corporate lobbyist money. Additionally, they will be progressive candidates who generally agree with the Justice Democrats platform. They say they won’t run against candidates that fully support the Justice Democrats platform, but they may challenge incumbents in primaries to get them to listen to their platform, if enough people are supporting their candidates then some incumbents may start listening to people that elect them. Justice Democrats is a federal political action committee. They are required as a PAC to accept donations and spend money toward electing federal candidates. PACs have a maximum contribution limit of $5,000 and must report all donations and expenditures. Their goal is to get everyday, working people into Congress. Many of these people don’t have a lot of campaign experience, and so in addition to endorsing candidates, Justice Democrats can help nascent campaigns get off the ground by providing a variety of campaign services directly to campaigns.
